While travelling through a mountain village in Cajamarca, Peru, I came across this lovely scene. I was fascinated by observing these two ladies walking and talking to each other in their tipical Cajamarquinian hats and dresses. Through the bus window I captured this scene by my camera and painted it home. I love and try to take an everyday scene and transform it into something beautiful with emotion. Like this one, I tried to make the viewers to feel that they were there in the street and hearing these two ladies talking to each other. For this motive, I did simplified the background.

Artist's Description

While travelling through a mountain village in Cajamarca, Peru, I came across this lovely scene. I was fascinated by the happiness of these two ladies walking and talking to each other in their typical Cajamaquinian hats and dresses. I had to capture this scene through the bus window sneakily took a photo and painted it later at home. I tried to take an everyday scene and transform it into something beautiful with emotion that transmits the viewer the feeling of being there in the street with them and hearing them talking to each other. Although the two ladies are off centre, just walking into the painting, they are meant to be on centre stage; hence I did away with any distracting background details.

I was born in Beijing, China. Now I am living in Lima, Peru. During the Chinese Cultural Revolution(which lasted from1966-1976), my family was separated and sent to the provinces. My eldest sister was sent to a remote countryside village. She took care of the farmers as a "barefoot doctor". I borrowed medical books and copied the texts and sketched those bones, tissues, muscles and organs and sent them to her pages by pages for her to study. That was my only drawing experience during those years. Art was hence more of a must under the circumstances but by no means a desire. I had my artistic awakening six years ago but it only lasted for one year. I was lured by the Marinera Norteņa, Peru's most famous folkdance, and became drunk for...
